The original Stag Hunt Sterling pattern was introduced by Paul Storr, who founded the firm Hunt and Roskell. He was a master goldsmith and silversmith who designed and produced flatware and sculptures for royalty, including Queen Victoria, from 1783 to 1838, before retiring. His partnership with Rundell, Bridge & Rundell from 1807 to 1819 made him a highly sought-after master craftsman.

The Stag Hunt pattern design is highly valued for its Neo-Classical high relief. The front of each piece features hounds chasing a stag up the handle, where a hunter at the other end just released one hound and prepares to release the last one, leaving the stag with no choice but to try and reverse its path to escape. The backside of each piece features hunting equipment, including bows, arrows, a quiver, crops, and horns. The back side of each bowl features what is believed to be Queen Elizabeth 1st.

Paul Storrs’ pursuit of excellence, creating masterpieces and pattern designs using handcrafting techniques that were adopted by master silversmiths, Henry John Lias, CJ Vander, and Gerrard and Co. CJ Vander was one of the last English silversmiths to employ the age old method hand forging flatware, where each piece starts out as an ingot and is formed by a silversmith using a hammer, polished, chassed, and decorated entirely by hand.

One of the best complete examples of this method seen in over 28 years. 100% museum-quality and condition.
